The Gospel of Jesus Christ – Devotional

I believe that we, as the Church, can have no other foundation apart from the finished work of Jesus Christ.
His Church came into being by Him dying on the Cross, and when He took upon the sins of the world for you and me. He then sent out His disciples with the Good News of Salvation; that we can have forgiveness of sins and receive eternal life through Faith in Him!

I believe that the “Foundation of the Apostles and Prophets” (Ephesians 2:20), needs to become our foundation!
And what is their foundation? It is Christ and Him Crucified! It is the teaching that we were once lost, and that we were short of God’s Glory, but NOW we have been redeemed by the precious Blood of Jesus Christ!

This is the Good News that, when it is preached and received, through faith in the Risen Christ, we as sinners have forgiveness of all our sins and become sons and daughters redeemed from the curse of sin, and we are washed whiter than snow.

In John 3:14-16, Jesus said: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have Eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Are other foundations ever laid? Most definitely! But when other foundations are laid, and Jesus Christ and Him Crucified are no longer the Foundation and the Chief Cornerstone of our lives, those who build upon other foundations, are not from the Christian Faith and are not from the Body of Christ, i.e. His Church. Rather, their ideas are cult-like, man-made  organizations which lead only to destruction and confusion!

Jesus said in His own Words, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: NO ONE comes to the Father, but through Me.” (John 14:6). The Bible also says, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Apart from Jesus Christ and His blood, shed upon the cross for the sins of the world, there is no salvation for people like you and me! We cannot be saved by works alone, or by even going to church. We can only be saved when we put our Faith in the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
That is why it is so foolish for man to build upon any other foundation but Christ and Him Crucified.

This is why the Apostle Paul says, “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:11).
Paul preached “Jesus Christ, and Him Crucified” (1 Corinthians. 2:2). He taught that all of us “have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God” but that all who believe are “Justified Freely by His Grace through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:23-24). Paul also taught that we receive this salvation in Christ through faith and not by any merit or work of our own.

This is the foundation Jesus has laid for us. I believe this is the only foundation upon which we children of Jesus Christ can build our lives on. Him alone.

I pray that today that the revelation of the finished work of the cross will become such a powerful reality in your life. Meditate on this truth and see yourself grafted into His death, burial and resurrection. You have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer you who lives, but Christ who lives in you!
