Key Verse
“For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 14:17
Joy is not optional for the believer. It is part of the Kingdom of God. The Bible says the Kingdom is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Joy begins on the inside, but it was never meant to remain hidden. When the life of God is flowing in us, that joy will eventually show on the outside.
The Bible says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Our strength is connected to our joy. When joy is lost, strength begins to go with it. But when we are filled afresh with the Holy Spirit, joy rises again.
This joy is not dependent on everything around us going perfectly. It comes from the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:52 says that the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. God wants us to live continually refreshed and filled with His joy.
“In Your presence is fullness of joy.” – Psalm 16:11
There is fullness of joy in His presence. God does not want us going through life spiritually empty, exhausted and drained. He wants to fill us again. He wants to pour the oil of gladness upon our lives and take us from strength to strength, victory to victory and glory to glory.
Jesus said in John 7 that if anyone is thirsty, they should come to Him and drink. Out of the believer will flow rivers of living water. There is a river of life inside of us through the Holy Spirit. We simply need to drink and then allow that river to flow.
So we must refuse to allow circumstances, pressure or disappointment to steal our joy. We can praise God, lift our voices and get into His presence. Jesus is alive. Our Redeemer lives. There is hope for tomorrow. Because of that, we can rejoice, we can be happy and we can be glad.
Today, let us receive joy again. Joy for our work. Joy for our ministry. Joy for everything God has called us to do. Let the river flow.
PRAYER:
Father, thank You for the joy of the Holy Spirit. Fill us afresh today. We refuse to allow anything to steal our joy. Let Your river of life flow through us, and let the joy of the Lord strengthen us for everything You have called us to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
TODAY: Get into His presence, praise Him and choose to rejoice. The joy of the Lord is our strength!
