Key Verse
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:14-15
When Nicodemus came to Jesus, Jesus began to speak to him about being born again and experiencing the Kingdom of God. He then pointed Nicodemus back to the Israelites in the wilderness. Poisonous snakes had bitten the people, and there was no natural cure. But God told Moses to lift up a bronze serpent, and everyone who looked upon it would live.
The people did not have to fight the snakes or remove the poison themselves. God gave them one instruction: LOOK AND LIVE. As they looked upon what God had provided, they were healed and restored.
Jesus explained that this was a picture of what He would accomplish on the cross. “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up.” Jesus would be lifted up and pay the price so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.
Many times, we make receiving from God complicated. We think we have to do more, work harder, or somehow earn what we need from Him. But the Gospel is good news because Jesus has already paid the price. Our part is to turn our eyes away from ourselves and our circumstances and look to Him.
I have seen this again and again on crusade fields across Africa. With thousands of people on a field, it is impossible for us to personally lay hands on everyone. Yet as the Gospel is preached, faith begins to rise. People hear the good news, believe, and look to Jesus. Then crutches begin to go up, people get out of wheelchairs, and testimonies begin to come in. They looked upon Jesus, and they received.
The enemy wants your attention fixed on the problem – what you feel, what you see, what has happened, and what others have said. But faith turns its eyes toward Jesus. There is something powerful that happens when Jesus becomes more real to you than the circumstance you are facing.
Maybe something in your life looks impossible today. Don’t allow the problem to become greater in your eyes than the promises of God. Look at what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Look at His goodness. Look at His power. Look at His Word.
You don’t have to have everything figured out or know how God is going to do it. Just look to Him and believe.
As they looked, they lived. LOOK TO JESUS AND LIVE.
